What Does Certified Mean?

Simply put, the EHR (such as this one) meets criterias set by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The government is providing monetary incentives if practices switch over to a certified EHR within a set time period.

The deadline for full payment is October 3rd, 2012.

After that, the payments are less.

And if you wait long enough, Medicare and Medicaid (Medi-CAL in California) payments will be reduced.

This process is not exactly simple and it does require time and patience.

We hope our quick guide below will help provide you with a better handle of this process.

Quick Guide to EHR Incentive Program

1. Choose a certified electronic health record (like this one). The EHR company should provide the certification ID or you can search for it here.

2. Check to see if you qualify for this EHR tax fund. Click here and scroll down to "Eligibility Requirements for Professionals"

3. In summary, if more than 90% of your services rendered is hospital inpatient or ER, then your practice will not qualify.

4. If #3 above does not apply, then you may REGISTER or ATTEST with CMS.

5. Registration will require you to remember your NPI number and login. If not, it's easy, just call the number provided next to the login and have them reset your login.

6. In summary, after you register, you need to attest to the meaningful usage of your EHR. This just means that you need to document your usage of your EHR the way that CMS wants you to use it and then submit it to CMS.

For full details, visit the original site, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Remember, check to see if you qualify for MEDICAID EHR Incentives. #2 above has the link to the Medicaid criterias.

Most importantly, remember that the real benefit of implementing an EHR (like ours!) is increased clinical documentation efficiency, decreasing human error, and most importantly improved clinical outcome.

This page will be updated continuously in an attempt to make this process as simple and painless as possible.
